Our proposal was originally presented as a joint venture between the school division and two teachers in 2015. We submitted our proposal (available here), but they were unable to support our venture with the current funding models available to them.
On our own in 2016, we did some preliminary work, traveling to Hawaii to visit the telescopes and base observatories. There we interviewed scientists to show our students possible opportunities in the field of astronomy. The work we did is available on this website (video links).
As a result of our initial work, we created a not for profit organization SA Science Outreach (incorporation certificate) and applied for an unpaid leave of absence (approval letters) for the 2018 school year.
We are excited to announce that starting in February 2018, we will begin our adventure and our Science Roadtrip.
